What every rider looks for in the perfect Ebike may vary, but three attributes always rise to the top of the list...price, performance, and dependability.  We feel we have found those three essentials in the Velotric Ebike!

Six reasons why it is our favorite:

1) Priced Under $1,500
2) Solid-Tire Compatible
3) Huge Long Lasting Removable Battery
4) Hydraulic Disc Brakes
5) 25 MPH Cruising Speed (Unlocked)
6) Easily Upgradable

The great thing about a high quality Ebike is the freedom that it gives you.  The rider is no longer limited to simply riding in a neighborhood, every path, trail, or road meshes with this bike to become a personal adventure with no two experiences ever the same.  A reasonable bike ride can be 20, 40, or even 80 miles in one day.

Solid-tire Compatible
First off, the Velotric eliminates one of the biggest problem with all Ebikes which is FLAT TIRES!

A bike tube is basically a balloon.  All balloons burst at some point.

Most Ebikes weigh between 60 to 100 pounds with the battery.  Whether you ride short or long distances, you want to have an Ebike that guarantees you will reach your destination and return without a flat.  Any rider knows trying to transport your Ebike home after a flat is far from fun, and in my experience almost always happens at the farthest point from home!

I've owned more than a dozen Ebikes and have ridden over 25,000 miles.  After getting numerous flats at the most inconvenient times and places, I now ALWAYS equip all my Ebikes with solid tires. I never worry about broken glass, thorns, or obstacles in the road any more.

The Velotric Discover 1, is solid-tire compatible.  I recommend purchasing Tannus 26" x 1.75" solid tires for your Velotric.  For approximately $50 per tire, this is the single best upgrade any rider can do for their electric bike.  The link to Tannus is here.

Please note:  The 27.5mm locking pins from Tannus are needed for the Velotric Discover 26" rims.  They are $5 per set (each wheel needs one set).  You may order them here.  If you contact Tannus with this request before placing your order for the tires, they should send them at no charge to you.

Toss your tire pump in the trash.  No more inflating your tires before going on a ride.  No more valve stems to go bad.  If you look closely in the-photo above, you will see there are no valve stems on the rims.

Any good bike store can install solid tires on your Velotric Ebike, or you can install them yourself following the steps in this video.

Huge Long Lasting Removable Battery
The Velotric Discover 1 arrives with one of the largest batteries on the market.  I weigh around 190 pounds.  With absolutely zero pedaling, one battery will take me more than twenty miles.  With minimal pedaling, the battery lasts around 40 miles.  If I'm cautious with the battery, I can easily make it last 60 miles or more.  However, I'm extremely lazy.  If I'm planning a long day trip on my bike, I simply take an extra battery and don't worry about pedaling at all.  I let my thumb power the bike.

Hydraulic Disc Brakes
Most conventional bicycles have standard rim brakes.  The brake pads consist of a rubber like material that wears out quickly and is not the best at stopping the bicycle.

The Velotric Discover 1 arrives with hydraulic disc brakes; basically the same brakes as your car, but in a miniature version.  The brake pads consist of a material much like the long lasting brake pads on your car.

Hydraulic means no cables.  A conventional bicycle typically uses a cable between the brake lever on the handlebar and the actual brake.  These cables stretch and wear out quickly, requiring even more maintenance.  Hydraulic disc brakes stop you better and require significantly less maintenance.

All modern cars have hydraulic disc brakes.  Your Ebike deserves the same.

25 MPH Cruising Speed (Unlocked)
Right out of the box the bike has a cruising speed of 20 mph.  I recomend NOT unlocking your speed restrictor.  However, you may click here to view the manufacturer's instructions for unlocking your speed restrictor.

I recommend leaving the top speed at 20 mph. I have owned an electric bike that had a top motor speed of 30 mph. I warn you 20 mph is dangerous. 25 mph is very dangerous, and anything above that is extremely dangerous. It's shocking how pedestrians will randomly move left or right when they hear something behind them.  Cars appear to naturally assume all bikes can stop on a dime.  The 30 mph speed was fun, but I had way too many close calls.  The bike is still in my garage and rarely gets ridden.

One additional warning: as with all Ebikes, the faster the motor runs the faster your battery drains.

Easy Upgrade: Rear View Mirrors
Motorcycle quality mirrors are very important for safety.  If you don't think rear view mirrors are needed for driving, try driving your car without them.  They are absolutely needed on an Ebike!

I purchased several of these from a seller on Ebay for under $20 per pair.  Here is the link.
Easy Upgrade: Handlebar Riser

Raise the handlebars.  The cabling & brake lines on the Velotric Discover 1, allow you to install a standard handlebar riser.  In my opinion, this makes the bike much more comfortable to ride.

I purchased several of these from a seller on Ebay for around $10 each.  Here is the link.
A clear video showing how to install the handlebar riser.
Easy Upgrade: Rear Rack

If you want to carry groceries, an extra battery, or other items, the rear rack is great.  The advantage is you can carry up to 55 pounds.  The original Velotric rear rack is great but it isn't cheap at $69.  For around $20 you can buy a nice rear carrier that connects to your seat bar at your local Wal-mart.
Easy Upgrade: Front Rack

If you want to carry even more, the front rack is great.  The $69 rack offered by Velotric is pretty expensive, but in my opinion it's worth it. The advantage is you can carry up to 33 pounds.  This factory rack bolts to the frame of the bike in such a position that the all important headlight is not blocked.  I recommend against the cheap department store baskets that only connect to your handlebars.
